Senator Nick Charles, a lifelong resident of Prince George’s County and graduate of Largo High School, proudly represents District 25 in the Maryland State Senate. A decorated U.S. Air Force Veteran, he earned two Air Force Achievement Medals for distinguished service before pursuing higher education, completing an AAS in Aviation Management from the Community College of the Air Force and a BBA in Procurement and Public Contracting from the University of the District of Columbia.
Senator Charles began his legislative service in the Maryland House of Delegates in 2019 and was appointed to the Senate in December 2023. He currently serves on the Judicial Proceedings Committee and is an active member of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland. His policy priorities include expanding opportunities for minority business enterprises in State procurement, advancing fatherhood and mentoring initiatives, promoting Black wealth creation, protecting children through juvenile justice and education reform, and improving access to quality healthcare.
His leadership has earned recognition across the State, including the 2025 People’s Lifetime Service Award at the R.I.S.E. Award Gala, the 2025 Leaders of Excellence Honoree recognition from 1st Choice LLC, the 2025 Maryland Retailers Alliance Legislative All-Star Award, the Circle of Excellence Award for Service at the Delta Zeta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.’s 75th Anniversary Gala in 2025, the 2024 Black Door
Society Community of Excellence Award, the 2023 Legislator Leadership Award from the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the 2022 Marie Noplock Legislative Advocacy Award, among others.
In addition to his Senate service, Senator Charles serves on the boards of Greater Baden Medical Services, Community Legal Services of Prince George’s County, and the Children’s Rights Fund. He is also a member of American Legion Post 275 and the Prince George’s County Young Democrats. Senator Charles was initiated into Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. in 2008 through the Omicron Gamma Chapter at the University of the District of Columbia, where he served as Basilues of the chapter and as the 2nd Vice District Representative of the Third District.
Senator Charles continues his deep commitment to community service and constituent engagement by organizing and hosting impactful initiatives across District 25. His efforts include the Annual Teen Career Expo connecting hundreds of local students with career and apprenticeship opportunities, large-scale Marlboro Pike cleanups with more than 120 volunteers, the Annual Back2School Cookout providing food, supplies, and family resources, and hosted the flagship MBE Night supporting over 200 small and minority-owned businesses. He also holds weekly senior meal distributions at the District Heights Senior Center, a monthly Community Roadway Concerns virtual meeting with County agencies, and annual legislative engagement events to keep constituents informed throughout the full legislative cycle.
Senator Charles is the proud father of two children who inspire his ongoing work to uplift Prince George’s County and the State of Maryland.
