About GBMS

GBMS is a non-profit organization that provides primary and preventive care services for both insured and uninsured patients. GBMS provides services to underserved individuals in three Maryland counties – Charles, Prince George’s, and St. Mary’s – which include 96 zip codes. The map shows the GBMS service area map and sites.

We are proud to provide the same high quality health care to the insured and uninsured. Services are provided at eight (8) clinical sites and 3 WIC locations in Prince George’s County, Charles County, and St. Mary’s County, Maryland to meet the needs of medically underserved and physician-shortage areas.

Behavioral Health Services

GBMS takes a holistic approach to patient care and helps individuals strive for self-improvement and manage emotional or behavioral issues. As such, GBMS offers behavioral health services to both adults and children in a safe and confidential environment, including:

Individual, Family, and Group Counseling
Case Management
Medication Management
Substance Abuse Assessment, Education, and Treatment
Assessment and Diagnosis
Psychiatric Evaluations

Specialty Programs

GBMS also administers several specialty programs, including:

Babies Born Healthy, which helps women of child bearing age achieve optimal health before, during, and after pregnancy.
Ryan White Program, which provides HIV-related services to patients who do not have sufficient health care coverage or financial resources for managing their disease.
Title X, which provides comprehensive family planning options and other related preventive health services
Women, Infants & Children (WIC), which offers nutrition and wellness services.

Supportive Services

GBMS also provides a wide range of supportive services to maximize patient access to care, including case management, language interpretation and translation, transportation, eligibility assistance, and outreach.

Special Population Services

GBMS also receives special population funding from HRSA to provide care for migrant and seasonal agricultural workers and their families

Vacheria Keys, JD
Chief Executive Officer

Mrs. Keys joins Greater Baden from the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), where she served as a member of the senior leadership team as Vice President of Policy and Regulatory Affairs. As a leading health policy expert in D.C., she directed national strategies to protect the Health Center Program, Medicaid, and Medicare, while playing a critical role in guiding hundreds of centers through the COVID-19 pandemic and the emerging drug pricing landscape.

Widely known for her expertise in health center compliance and her successful track record in high-stakes advocacy, Mrs. Keys has navigated health centers through transitions across two presidential administrations. A resident of the Greater Washington, D.C. and Maryland area for over 10 years, she is deeply committed to serving her neighbors and the diverse populations across Southern Maryland.

I am eager to channel the deep passion and expertise I’ve developed on a national stage to create direct, local impact and meaningful change for the communities we serve. Mrs. Keys is a double HBCU graduate, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Spelman College and a Juris Doctorate from the Howard University School of Law. She is a member of the Texas State Bar and has held numerous leadership roles, including serving as the former Chair of the Partnership for Medicaid.

Jeffrey A. Kurcab, MBA
Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Jeffrey Kurcab serves as Chief Financial Officer of Greater Baden Medical Services. Mr. Kurcab adds to the team three decades of proven experience in healthcare, serving for the last 14 consecutive years as Chief Financial Officer within the acute care hospitals and clinic environment. Prior to that role, he served for four (4) years as Chief Financial Officer with two facilities and eighteen clinics that accounted for over $1.7 billion in gross revenue and $231 million in net revenue annually. His experience as Chief Financial Officer is both deep and diverse. He is uniquely poised to provide financial leadership to Greater Baden while developing new initiatives to maximize opportunities for business growth. Jeff’s responsibilities include continuing to improve the revenue cycle’s overall process, improving the efficiencies of financial reporting, and enhance service line reporting systems to capture services provided.

Jeff holds a Master of Business Administration from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI. Jeff and his wife have five sons and five grandchildren.

Dr. Chintan Patel, MD
Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Patel strongly believes in providing exceptional care to all patients. Equity and ensuring proper access to medical services are at the center of his approach to quality care. Dr. Patel’s personal mission is central to his role of leading the clinician team and quality improvement efforts of Greater Baden. As a board-certified pediatrician with experience in the emergency department, urgent care, and primary care he is on a mission to serve and enhance community health. Additionally, Dr. Patel’s work also places a strong emphasis on connecting all aspects of medicine, learning data science, and health I.T., ultimately improving the clinician and patient experience. Dr. Patel started with Greater Baden in early 2019 as Pediatric Physician, was promoted to Physician Co-Leader in August 2020. He served as Interim Chief Medical Officer prior to becoming Greater Baden’s Chief Medical Officer in January 2022.

Dr. Patel earned a Bachelor of Biology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) and his Doctor of Medicine from the American University of Antigua College of Medicine. Dr. Patel was born in India and raised in Maryland. Dr. Patel spends his spare time traveling with his wife and two daughters.

Julie London Brewer, BS, SPHR
Chief Human Resources Officer

Julie London Brewer, BS, CDP, SPHR has served as Chief Human Resources Officer of Greater Baden Medical Services (GBMS) since July 2019. Julie’s key responsibilities are the strategic design and execution of GBMS’ talent strategy that encompasses recruiting, hiring, developing and retaining team members; utilizing data analytics to set team member compensation rates, ensuring the organization stays competitive with pay, bonuses and benefits; and overseeing HR policies and practices to elevate team member experience and foster engagement. Her previous roles include East Coast Director Human Resources for Solis Mammography, Einstein-Solis, and Washington Radiology. She has also served as Northeast Regional Director of Human Resources for DaVita Kidney Care supporting DC, VA and MD. In addition, Julie has also served as head of Diversity & Inclusion for the national restaurant chain, Waffle House, Inc. Julie’s core HR leadership belief is that Human Capital is key to any organization’s success. She believes that having fully engaged, competent, confident, passionate team members working toward our organizational mission is the goal! Julie has a special combination of integrity, political savvy, and fortitude to deliver results in a collaborative manner, ensuring the FUN agenda is always incorporated.

Julie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications and Marketing from Spalding University, Master Certification in Cross-Cultural Diversity & Inclusion form University of Houston’s, C T Bauer College of Business, Executive Management Certificate Program at Georgia Institute of Technology. She also holds SHRM – SPHR (Sr. Professional Human Resources) and numerous other HR certifications. Julie is married and has two wonderful sons.

Greater Baden Medical Services receives U.S. Department of Health and Human Services funding and has Federal Public Health Services (PHS) deemed status with respect to certain health or health-related claims, including medical malpractice claims, for itself and its covered individuals.

The Joint Commission has reviewed Greater Baden Medical Services and found it to meet Level I criteria for the Maternal Levels of Care Program.
